Abstract:
There, in the Islamic traditions, are different cases speaking about the first creature. Mention can be made of the most significant instances such as the light of holy Prophet of Islam and Ahlu al-Beit (PBUT), the spirit, the intellect, water and pen.
Making use of descriptive-analytic method, the authors have studied the views of intellectuals, particularly the Shiite, in order to resolve the contradiction of those traditions. A look into those traditions shows that the authorities in hadith either went to reconcile those traditions that they are different phrases of the same concept or to separate the material world from the spiritual one that in the former it is “water” and in the latter it is “intellect”. Having referred to the so-called al-Wahid Rule “nothing issues from the One except one”, most philosophers and mystics hold that the first created or issued being is one. The philosophers have named it “intellect”, and the mystics have construed it as “light”, “Muhammadan Reality”, or “expanded existence”. Some scholars have separated “the first created” from “the first issued” and applied those traditions on the creation of the light of holy Muhammad (PBUH) as the first creature .
