Severe pneumocephalus after endoscopic maxillary sinus polypectomy

Abstract:
introduction

Pneumocephalus may be the result of trauma, surgical interventions, infections, and malignancies. Pneumocephalus can have different clinical symptoms depending on the volume of Pneumocephalus in the patients. In this study, a patient that admitted to emergency department with severe pneumocephalus after endoscopic nasal surgery discussed.The patient is a 47-year-old man who presented to the emergency department with severe headache and nausea/ vomiting. Patient describe a headache that gradually worsened over the last 2 days, with no response to analgesic treatments. After taking history from the patient he described a history of endoscopic maxillary sinus polypectomy surgery few days ago. After imaging studies in this patient brain CT scan showed severe Pneumocephalus. The patient treatment consist of supportive care and reconstructive surgery. After that symptoms of patient resolved and he discharged from hospital.

Conclusion

In patients with a history of surgical intervention in the sinus we must pay particular attention to neurologic manifestations and pneumocephalus.
