Reflection on Quantitative and Qualitative Methods of Urban Form-Morphological Studies (Approaches and Techniques), Case study: Historical texture of Khorramabad
The urban form plays an important role in the urban landscape and its comprehensive recognition will be an effective step in the success of planning new urban plans. Purpose of this study is to investigate the studies in the urban form-morphology and to classify them in terms of quantitative and qualitative methods, as well as to introduce their approaches and techniques. Thus, by examining the intellectual evolution of theorists, emphasizing on the theoretical foundations of later theorists such as "Moudon,Oliveira and Kropf", provides a comprehensive classification of quantitative and qualitative studies of urban morphology, approaches and techniques. The analytical findings are each expressed. Then, in the conceptual framework of the research, we introduce the constitutive elements and analyze the constitutive forms of urban form-morphing. The Darab-e-Babatahar neighborhood, located in the historical core of Khorramabad, despite several monuments and a high potential to become a tourist-historical hub of the city, faces a lack of physical-spatial values and qualities. This research is a practical survey based on its purpose, and the method of the research is a mixed type (both quantitative and qualitative). The qualitative method has been conducted with exploratory studies and directional content analysis techniques. This study extracts cognitive tools and analytical methods by classifying urban form-morphological study approaches and presenting techniques appropriate to each approach and content analysis of its ideas. Urban Network Analysis(UNA) technique is used to analyze the case sample and investigates the flow of streams in the study area using fivefunctions of "Reach,Gravity,Betweenness,Closeness and Straightness" in network analysis. The findings indicate that we can combine complementary design and endogenous development, and adaptive design with preservation of morphological elements and key tissue properties, based on respect for the valuable space past, to reinforce and consolidate the character of urban neighborhood form in historical contexts.
