Mindfulness-based Parenting Education: A Suggested Solution to Reduce Nurses’ Parental Stress

Abstract:
Introduction

Job is one of the affecting factors in the incidence and extent of parenting stress, so the use of preventive methods and proper management of parenting stress for working parents, seems necessary. The purpose of this article was to review the studies on the effect of mindfulness-based parenting education on maternal parenting stress.

Materials and Methods

In this narrative review, data collection was carried out through PubMed, Science Direct, Sid, Scopus, Iran doc and Magiran databases according to use Persian keywords like Parental stress, Education, Parents, Mother, Nurse and Parenting Education based on mindfulness and their English equivalents in the period 2010 to 2021. The Google Scholar search engine was also used to search for articles. Out of a total of 450 articles extracted, 11 related articles were reviewed. Inclusion criteria included originality, writing in Persian and English, and consistency with the purpose of the study, and exclusion criteria included not having access to the full version of the article.

Results

Mindfulness parenting education has dimensions such as listening with full attention, accepting without judgment of self and child, awareness of emotion towards self and child, self-regulation in parenting relationship and compassion for self and child, which causes Positive effect on maternal parenting stress, increase muscle relaxation, reduce anxiety, stress, and anxiety, reduce negative and aggressive emotions in parents, increase positive emotions in the parent-child relationship, increase parental health and self-efficacy and improve parent-child and marital relationship ( Has improved the quality of parenting).

Discussion and Conclusion:

According to the results of the present study, it is suggested that this educational method be used to reduce parental stress by examining the working conditions of nurses. If necessary, repeat in the form of a retraining program at regular intervals.
