The Role of Emotion Regulation Strategies and Spiritual Well-being in Predicting Compulsive Sexual Behavior

Sexual relations act as a background for reinforcing emotions and feelings between people and could provide the means of strengthening family ties. The present study was conducted to determine the role of emotion regulation strategies and spiritual well-being in predicting compulsive sexual behavior.

The study was based on a descriptive correlational method. Statistical population consisted of all married men in Ardabil city (Zones one and two) in 2020. 110 men were selected as the statistical sample using the convenience sampling by referring to public places. For data collection the emotion regulation strategies (Gross, John, 2003), spiritual well-being (Daaleman, Frey, 2004) and compulsive sexual behavior (Efrati, Mikulincer, 2018) were used. Research data were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression using SPSS18 software.

The results showed a significant relationship between emotion regulation strategies (Reappraisal -0.47, Suppression 0.41) and spiritual well-being -0.59 with compulsive sexual behavior in married men. Also, the results of multiple regression showed that emotion regulation strategies and spiritual well-being can predict the compulsive sexual behavior of married men by 0.44 (p<0.05).

Married menschr('39') compulsive sexual behavior is predictable with emotion regulation strategies and spiritual well-being. It is suggested that psychologists and health professionals pay more attention to the role of these variables in reducing the compulsive sexual behavior of Married men.
