Abstract:

This article tries to show that the widespread increase in divorce rate is a social phenomenon and is caused by the weakening of the collective spirit and the growth of individualism in modern society, which makes marriage no longer based on tradition and the collective will. Individualism makes the emotional relationship the base of marriage. Hence, frustration and dissatisfaction with cohabitation can lead to divorce or emotional divorce, and an important social factor that can lead to despair and dissatisfaction with married life is the inequality of power in the family. It is opposite of an emotional relationship, which in itself is an equal relationship. Divorce statistics in our society and the world confirm the association between the growth of individualism and the growth of divorce rate. And our survey of a large probability sample of married women in Tehran shows that emotional divorce has a relatively strong direct correlation with power inequality in the family.
