Intellectuals from the perspective of Abdul Wahab Al-Bayati

The tendency towards realist literature as one of the consequences of the World War II put poets in composing poems in two different directions; Some with a penchant for descriptive poems pursued a social goal and portrayed external events that the audience's influence on these poems is based only on events in the outside world and not what the poet wants. The other group, with a tendency towards a kind of rhetorical literature, sought to increase the level of political consciousness of the people. Intellectual poets, with the help of critical wisdom to create interaction and enlightenment in society, always tried to inform people about the political developments of their time. Among these committed intellectual poets is Abdul Wahab Al-Bayati. By connecting the past to the present experience, he tries to create a sort of intellectual harmony to make human contemplate his situation and position more among the great human community. Using the descriptive-analytical method, this research seeks to answer the basic questions in three axes: what is the role of intellectuals, why they exist in society and the characteristics of committed intellectuals from the point of view of Abdul Wahab Al-Bayati; The results show that Al-Bayati, considers intellectualism as equivalent to commitment to human suffering and tries to resolve class conflict and declares the mission of an intellectual as linking his suffering with the suffering of fellow human beings. He seeks to spread high human values, fight against class distance and establish a society based on justice and love.
