Abstract:
Introduction

Mucormycosis is a rare, progressive, and dangerous fungal infection with a high mortality rate. There have been several reports of increased mucormycosis rate during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Case Presentation

Here, we report a 69 years old men of sinoorbital mucormycosis as a late complication of COVID-19. Endoscopic sinus surgery was performed underwent general anesthesia and all necrotic tissues were removed. Nasal biopsy showed inflammatory and necrotic tissue, fungal infestation along with mucormycosis and aspergillus.

Conclusions

It seems that diabetes, improper use of corticosteroids, and COVID-19 are the three key causes of increased incidence of mucormycosis. Therefore, further research is warranted for the improved evaluation, prevention, and management of opportunistic infections in these patients. Also, the use of immunosuppressants should be accompanied by perfect supervision.
