Abstract:
Background and Objectives

Social adjustment in adolescents is one of the symptoms of mental health that factors such as resilience and compassion can be effective in creating and strengthening it. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between resilience and self-compassion with social adjustment of female high school students in Kalachai city.

Materials and Methods

The present study was an applied, descriptive-correlational study. The statistical population of this study was all female high school students in Kalachai city. Of these, 186 of whom were selected by stratified sampling. Data collection instruments were the Conner-Davidson resilience, Neff Self-Compassion and Clark et al. social adjustment scales. Collected data were analyzed in SPSS-21 software using multivariate regression and correlation tests.

Results

The mean (SD) age of participants was 16.8 (1.8). The mean (SD) scores of resilience were 85.8 (8.05), self-compassion 108.5 (11.2) and social adjustment 76. 8 (8.9). There was a significant positive relationship between resilience and social adjustment (P<0.001) and between self-compassion and social adjustment (P<0.001). The results of regression analysis showed that a total of two variables could predict 78.6% of social adjustment. Analysis of variance for regression significance showed that with 99% confidence, the resilience variable was able to predict social adjustment (F1,184=174.017, P<0.001). In addition, with 99% confidence, the variable of self-compassion was able to predict social adjustment (F1,183=340.123, P<0.001).

Conclusion

The study showed that there was a relationship between resilience and self-compassion with students' social adjustment. The more resilient students, the greater their social adjustment. Also, the more self-compassionate students, the greater their social adjustment.
