Predicting sleep problems in adolescent girls based on parenting styles and insecure style of attachment
The aim of this study was to the prediction of sleep problems in adolescent girls based on parenting styles and insecure style of attachment. The statistical population of the study included all female high school students in Kashan in the academic year 1399-1400 (3610 students). 234 subjects were selected by multi-stage cluster sampling. The Petersburg-Boyce et al. Sleep Quality Questionnaire (PSQI), the Schiffer Parenting Styles Questionnaire (PSQ) and the Hazen and Shaver Adult Attachment Questionnaire (AASQ) were used to collect data. Pearson correlation test and multivariate regression were used to analyze the data using SPSS 23 software. The results showed that the parenting styles of love (-0.24) and control (-0.18) had a significant negative relationship with sleep problems in adolescent girls. Also, there is a significant positive relationship between anxiety insecure attachment styles (0.19) and avoidance (0.19) with sleep problems in adolescent girls. The multiple coefficient index also showed that the predictive components of the research can predict 0.11 of the sleep problems of adolescent girls.The findings of the present study show that dysfunctional parenting styles and insecure attachment styles can predispose girls to sleep disorders. The findings of this study have educational-health implications for the prevention of adolescent sleep problems.
