Abstract:
Semiotics, as an emerging science, studies the signs in nature and examines their effects on the natural, social, and cultural relations between the humans. This nascent knowledge can be analyzed and studied using sciences related to the signs and the process of communication. Body language is one of the sciences that deals with communication between humans without establishing words and only through body movements. In this study, we examine a number of verses of Haft Peykar, which is a symbolic work full of signs. Haft Peykar is Nezami’s masterpiece in which he uses body language and semiotics. According to the results obtained, Nezami’s Haft Peykar often deals with the general movements and postures of the body which are a kind of code related to the period of composing the work and the habits of the people of that time. Studies show that nonverbal communication and semiotics, as two separate bodies of knowledge, can influence each other with many differences. In addition, by making a connection between a literary subject and two social sciences, it is possible to better understand the concept of a literary work.
