Study of Nursing and Midwifery Students' Satisfaction with Their Field of Study

Interest in the elective course can lead to improvement and promotion of students or cause fatigue, hopelessness, and frustration of studying. The purpose of this study was to investigate the satisfaction of nursing and midwifery students with their field of study.

This descriptive cross-sectional study was performed on 123 nursing and midwifery students of Golestan University of Medical Sciences. Students of semester 1, 4 and 8 were included in the study using census and available sampling method. Data were collected using a valid and reliable questionnaire of satisfaction with the field of study. Data were analyzed by SPSS and descriptive statistics and Chi-square and Mann-Whitney tests at the significant level of P <0.05.

  The mean and standard deviation of satisfaction from the field of study among students in total was 20.77± 3.17. The difference between the fields was not significant, but with the increase of the semester, the level of satisfaction with the field increased. No significant relationship was found between academic satisfaction and demographic variables.

Nursing and midwifery students' satisfaction with the field of study was high and with increasing semester, the level of satisfaction increased. This finding can be a promising message for educators.
