The effectiveness of self-efficacy-based motivational interview on increasing medication adherence in women with type-2 diabetes
The aim of this study was to determine the effect of self-efficacy motivational interview intervention on increasing therapeutic adherence of women with type 2 diabetes.
The present study was an experimental study with pre-test, post-test and follow-up design. The statistical population was men and women with type 2 diabetes in Tehran Diabetes Research in 1397. Type 2 diabetes eligible for the study were selected and randomly assigned to experimental (15 patients) and control (15 patients) groups. Data were collected using the drug compliance questionnaire of Moriski et al. (2008) and the demographic questionnaire by interview and blood sampling. Each member of the intervention group underwent a motivational interview for five sessions of 30-45 minutes. Data were analyzed using repeated measures variance.
The results showed that motivational interview based on self-efficacy is effective in improving therapeutic compliance (F = 15.30, P = 0.001); Also, the results of post hoc test and comparing the mean score of adherence therapy in different stages in the self-efficacy motivational interview group showed that there is a significant difference between the score of pre-test stage and the score of post-test stages, first follow-up and second follow-up.
Motivational interview intervention based on self-efficacy in 5 sessions showed a positive effect on treatment adherence in patients with type 2 diabetes. Therefore, it is suggested that this intervention be done in more time and sessions.
