The challenges of the strategic region of the Persian Gulf from the perspective of environmental geopolitics
The marine environment of the Persian Gulf is continuously exposed to risks due to its special ecological conditions and the exploitation of this environment and its resources. Now, geopolitics has found a deep link with environmental issues, because governments and nations have realized that the most suitable strategy to achieve peace and tranquility and eliminate conflicts among themselves is to respect the issues It is environmental. In this regard, many thinkers who are concerned about environmental geopolitical issues believe that the destruction of ozone, climate changes and environmental erosion will lead to political problems at the world level; Because the root of most of them is cross-border and therefore their control is beyond the political will of a country. Therefore, it is better for countries to pay special attention to international agreements in drawing up their environmental policy, to resolve upcoming geopolitical disputes, whether at the national, regional or global level.
In this regard, the present study investigates the importance of the environmental geopolitics of the Persian Gulf and its effects on national security with a descriptive-analytical approach and finally provides solutions for the environmental sustainability of the Persian Gulf.
The Persian Gulf as a unique ecosystem and as a vital international waterway, in addition to the damage caused by the traffic of oil tankers and the extraction of oil from the continental shelf, the first and second war in the Persian Gulf and also In terms of the growth of urbanization, the development of industrial activities and the irrational use of resources, it is under severe pressure and this sea has turned into a place of discharge of a huge volume of urban and industrial sewage. Therefore, in order to improve and clean this ecosystem from pollution, the environmental cooperation of the countries around the Persian Gulf is necessary for correct and strategic decision-making, as well as the strict observance of international agreements, prevention of marine pollution and correct transportation of laws and regulations.
