Designing a Model for Explaining the Role of the University in Developing the Professional Commitment of Nursing Students
Commitment in nursing directly affects the output of performance and professional behavior. Training committed and skilled nurses is one of the university missions; thus, the study endeavored to explain the effective academic factors on professional commitment development in nursing students.
The current research is a mixed study, which is in the qualitative part of content analysis and in the quantitative part of descriptive analysis. Samples in qualitative phase were 20 hospital managers of Fayyaz Bakhsh and Alborz hospitals and faculty members of the Islamic Azad University of Karaj branch who were selected by purposive sampling method and in the quantitative phase were 305 nursing students of the Islamic Azad University of Karaj branch who were selected by simple random sampling entry in the academic years 2020-2021. Data collection instruments were semi-structured interview and researcher-made questionnaire. that Qualitative Data were analyzed by MAXQDA 2020 and Smart pls3 software.
After interviewing and analyzing data content, effective academic factors on professional commitment in both background and educational dimensions were extracted, which were used as a framework for making questionnaires. The data obtained from the questionnaire were analyzed by exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses and model designed.
Given the teaching principles of professional commitment among the students and preparing students for the future professional life is an important part of the responsibilities of universities, accordingly, the designed model can be considered as a framework in educational planning for managers.
