Sustainable development and, accordingly, sustainable architecture is one of the current topics for the reconciliation of man with nature and solving the problem of alienation of man from the environment, which is the result of a material attitude towards nature. Inspiration from nature, which has been the source of many sustainable designs in architectural and even industrial designs, has not been very effective in urban design. The purpose of this research, which is descriptive-analytical and of a comparative analysis type, is to describe and analyze rare examples of urban and social development based on natural patterns and finally extract principles for sustainable urban design. Maimand city is a unique type of settlement design inspired by nature, which comparison with the life of a natural social unit such as an ant nest and its analysis helps to extract these principles. The principle of proportions in designing and creating harmony between elements and predicting the future physical development of cities is one of the most important principles resulting from this comparison.
