Abstract:

Social capital has a preventive role in suicide attempts. The main purpose of the research was to explain the relationship between social capital and its components to suicide attempt in Ilam city. The research method was quantitative (survey), the tool was a researcher-made questionnaire which was used in conjunction with a standard one. On the basis of Cochran formula, 515 people were selected from the cities of Ilam, Ivan, Dereshahr, Malekshahi, and Dehlran via a random cluster sampling technique. The research tool had acceptable validity and reliability. The results showed that social capital and its components (social cohesion, social participation, social trust, social belonging) had a significant relationship with suicide attempts and the correlation coefficient of the social capital index is equal to -0.387. Therefore, the determination coefficient of the research is equal to -0.139; The adjusted coefficient of determination is equal to -0.121 and the overall correlation coefficient is equal to -0.201.
