Abstract:
The present study studies control constructions in Persian language based on Role and Reference Grammar (RRG). In RRG, control constructions are discussed based on " theory of obligatory control ". This theory has semantic foundations and specifically evaluates the phenomenon of control based on the thematic relations of the arguments as well as the type of control predicates. In the present paper, we first categorized the types of control predicates based on " Interclausal semantic relations " in the RRG and in this command, we analyzed the types of control constructions based on psych-action, causative and jussive predicates. The findings confirm that the Persian language data are consistent with the theory of obligatory control and as a result, the explanatory adequacy of the theory can be confirmed. It is worth mentioning that the data of the present study are taken from the corpus of Hamshahri 2.
