The Effectiveness of Self-care Therapy on Psychic Restlessness and Tolerance of Emotional Distress in Women with Multiple Sclerosis
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of self-care-based therapy on mental intolerance and emotional distress tolerance in women with multiple sclerosis in 2021.
The research method was quasi-experimental pre-test-post-test with a control group. The statistical population of the study consisted of all women with multiple sclerosis covered by the welfare of Sarakhs city of Khorasan Razavi province in February and March of 2021, from which 30 people were selected by available sampling method and randomly divided into 2 groups. Experiments and controls (15 people in each group) were placed. The experimental group underwent 8 sessions of 60-minute treatment focused on compassion and the control group did not receive any intervention until the end of the study. The research instruments included Alikhani et al.'s (2017) and Simmons and Gahr (2005) distress tolerance questionnaires. Research data were analyzed by multivariate analysis of covariance using SPSS software version 26.
The results showed that compassion-focused therapy is effective on mental intolerance and emotional distress tolerance in women with multiple sclerosis (P<0.05).
According to the findings of the study, it can be said that treatment focused on compassion is an important factor and effective in increasing anxiety tolerance and reducing mental intolerance in women with multiple sclerosis.
