The effect of perceived social support on sexual satisfaction of patients with MS

Multiple sclerosis (MS) has many complications and consequences, one of which is the reduction of sexual satisfaction. Determining the factors related to sexual satisfaction of these patients is very importance for the success of the interventions. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of perceived social support on sexual satisfaction of patients with MS in Isfahan.

The present study was a descriptive correlational study that the research community consisted of patients with MS in Isfahan in the first half of 2021. 240 eligible patients were included in the study through random sampling. To collect data, patients' demographic form, perceived social support of Zimet et al. (1988) and sexual satisfaction of Larson et al. (1998) were used. Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 20 using descriptive and inferential statistical tests.

The level of Perceived social support (27.35±9.06) and sexual satisfaction (88.36±13.12) was moderate. The relationship between perceived social support and patients 'sexual satisfaction (r = 0.510, p <0.001) was direct and significant, and with increasing perceived social support, patients' sexual satisfaction increased.

Given the importance of perceived social support in patients with MS and its relationship with sexual satisfaction, promoting social support for these people can be one of the effective suggestions for promoting sexual satisfaction in them.
