Sociological explanation of the mediating role of social development in the impact of good governance on the degree of ethnic convergence in Urmia

Ethnic identity and its intensification is one of the important social issues of multiethnic countries. This is especially important in underdeveloped countries. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of explaining sociologically the mediating role of social development in the impact of good governance on ethnic convergence. The research method of this research is survey and the statistical population includes all citizens over 20 years of age in Urmia. According to Cochran's formula, 970 of them have been selected by simple random sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed by SPSS and Lisrel software. The average percentage of ethnic convergence is equal to 47.2, good governance is equal to 64.2, social development is equal to 44.5. Good governance has a positive and significant relationship with ethnic convergence as well as a significant and direct relationship with social development. Social development also has a significant relationship with ethnic convergence. The mediation of social development in the relationship between good governance and ethnic convergence was confirmed. The results of the ethnic convergence path model also showed that in explaining the convergence of dependent ethnic groups, the impact of good governance is more than the dimensions of social development.
