Studying the Relationship between Social Alienation with High-Risk Behavior among the Adolescents in Bojnourd

High-risk behavior is increasing among adolescents. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the relation between social alienation (as one of risk factors) and high-risk behaviors among adolescents in Bojnourd. High-risk behaviors have been examined in six dimensions (violence and carrying cold weapons, suicide, cigarette, hookah, drug and alcohol use) and social alienation have been examined in four dimensions (powerlessness, anomie, meaninglessness, and self-aversion). This study has been conducted with a cross-sectional survey. The statistical population included adolescents of 15-19 years old. The sample size was identified as 453 people based on Cochran formula. Quota sampling was carried out based on age and gender. The results of this study show that high-risk behavior is observed less among girls than boys, but social alienation is not different based on gender. High risk behavior and social alienation in adolescents belong to low socio-economic status more among another adolescent. Social alienation and four dimensions of it have positive significant relationship with high risk behavior. The linear regression model of the study depicts those four indicators of the social alienation including the adolescents socio-economic status determines the 12.5 percent of the high-risk behaviors among the adolescents in Bojnourd. According to the coefficients of standard Beta, the high-risk behavior variance was mostly predicted by anomie and meaninglessness respectively. As a result, preventive plans against high-risk behaviors can be very influential based on alleviation of social alienation in adolescents, with emphasis of adolescents belong to low socio-economic status. Planning for alleviation of social alienation can be emphasis on role of adolescents as an active actor in society.
