Relationship Between Intra-organizational Intelligence and Organizational Citizenship Behavior of Hospital Staff Mediated by Resilience

Abstract:
Objective

Organizational citizenship behavior is a valuable and useful behavior that employees show voluntarily and willingly. This study aims to determine the relationship between intra-organizational intelligence and organizational citizenship behavior of hospital staff mediated by their resilience..

Methods

This is a descriptive-correlational study that was carried out in 2021. The study population consist of administrative, financial and support staff of private hospitals in Shiraz, Iran (n=164). Of these, 143 were selected by simple random sampling method. The sample size was determined using Cochran’s formula. The measurement tool was a researcher-made questionnaire measuring demographic characteristics, cultural intelligence, emotional intelligence, spiritual intelligence, moral intelligence, resilience and organizational citizenship behavior with a 5-point Likert scale from completely agree to completely disagree. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of the questionnaire was calculated as 0.87 and its validity was also obtained by using experts’ opinions. To test the normality of the data, the Kolmograph-Smirnov test was used, and To analyze the data, artificial neural network (ANN) and the Spearman’s correlation test were used. Statistical analyses were performed in SPSS software version 22.

Results

Of 143 questionnaires, 115 were completed. The correlation coefficients according to Spearman’s test and ANN-based test were 0.67 and 0.32 for the relationship between cultural intelligence and resilience, 0.42 and 0.12 for the relationship between emotional intelligence and resilience, 0.53 and 0.22 for the relationship between spiritual intelligence and resilience, 0.49 and 0.25 for the relationship between moral intelligence and resilience, and 0.73 and 0.86 for the relationship between resilience and organizational citizenship behavior.

Conclusion

Intra-organizational intelligence of hospital staff in Shiraz city have a positive and significant correlation with organizational citizenship behavior mediated by resilience. This can increases extra-role, efficient and socially oriented behaviors, which can result in increased employee commitment and job satisfaction as well as productivity and success in organization.
