The main challenge of the present century in the public health field is the high quality of life. The purpose of this research was to examine the relationship between public health and quality of life in the elderly in 2017.
The studied population was over 60 years old and the sample size consisted of 233 elderly of Esfarayen county referred to health care centers. Data were collected using a three-part questionnaire. The first part included demographic data, the second part included Goldberg public health scale with 28 questions and the third part included Lipad elderly quality of life scale. Data analysis was performed by SPSS, version 16 software using independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient.
The mean age of the subjects was 65.06±6.07 years old. Most of the subjects were female (%65.7), illiterate (%65.2), and married (%70.8). The mean scores of quality of life and public health in the elderly were 46.70±7.74 and 24.44±11.43, respectively. The findings showed that with increasing public health, quality of life of elderly significantly increased (r=0.33, p<0.001).
According to the results of the present research, it is recommended that health and care managers pay more attention to the importance of lifestyle in health promotion in training programs of the society. Continuous and planned training for elderly in relation to lifestyle and public health can reduce the high prevalence and progression of many diseases and could improve their quality of life.
