Abstract:
Sasanian circular plates, as the most significant archaeological data, adorn many museums around the world. However, a large number of these plates have not been obtained from scientific research, so their study is of special importance in terms of authenticity. Accordingly, laboratory studies to determine certainty are still at the beginning of the work, and on the other hand, counterfeiting methods have become more advanced with the development of technology; therefore, comparative studies are still considered one of the most important ways to identify the authenticity of historical works. In this regard, the Silver and gilt plate belonging to the Sassanid period of Hegmataneh Museum was examined based on comparative comparison. The purpose of this research is to introduce and verify the authenticity of the vessel in question based on its structural features with other similar examples from the Sassanid era, so that it can answer our questions about 1- Is the sample of the Silver and gilt plate studied based on the similarity of structural features consistent with other similar samples or discovered from scientific explorations? 2- Can its dating (authenticity) be verified based on artistic similarity or distinction? To answer this research has been carried out in a descriptive-analytical way and in a library way. The results of this research show the practicality of this dish. Comparative studies in terms of shape and construction technique confirm its similarity with Sasanian Silver samples discovered by scientific excavations. However, the inconsistency of the representation of the eagle with open wings and an antlered deer lacks the proportions and style of Sasanian art. The stated differences make it difficult to attribute the Silver and gilt plate of the Hegmatane Museum to the Sassanid period.
