Abstract:

Constructive journalism is a new approach to communication that, relied on theoretical underpinnings from positive psychology and a solution-based approach, seeks to solve problems of societies in which audiences are faced with individual and social problems. Considering the frequency of the social, economic and cultural challenges in Iran and the need for a change in media approach in the country, the present study is an attempt to develop and validate a concrete and applied model of constructive journalism and then propose the most compatible native strategy for its application in Iranian context. To this aim, structural equation modeling in SPSS was used and for developing the most compatibles strategy Scenario-Wizard was used. Research findings revealed that in the model of constructive journalism 15 main variables with acceptable loading factor exist which, based of Eigen value, are distributed among three main factors of epistemology-knowledge, cognitive-methodologic, and instructional-structural. Also, scenario results showed that emotional-cognitive and attitudinal-motivational awareness raising toward constructive journalism as well as changing the media structures, rules and regulation related to institutional dependence along with instructing media practitioners about methodology and psychology of constructive journalism are key variables in the desired strategy. These findings have implications for media managers, journalists, and researchers.
