Examining the Current State of Teaching Science Process Skills in the Textbook and Teacher's Guide of Science
In the current research, the content of the sixth-grade science textbook and related teacher's guide was analyzed to identify the current situation of teaching science process skills. After developing the coding scheme, the content analysis of the books was done with the Theme registration unit using the Shannon entropy method. The validity and reliability of the content analysis tool was confirmed with the help of experts and Kappa values between 0.627 and 0.871. According to the obtained results, operational definition with a weight of 0.4315 and 0.4708 and space and time relationship with a weight of 0.2158 and 0.4708 are the most important skills, and deduction with a weight of 0.0042 and 0.0015 and communication with a weight of 0.0014 and 0.0035 have been neglected in the textbook and teacher's guide respectively. The results of content analysis indicate a lack of balance in the coverage of science process skills in the curriculum.
