A Study on Relationship Between Family Factors and Academic Achivement of Ghom Province High School Students

Abstract:
The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between family function, family conflict, parenting styles, and economic-educational level of family and academic achievement of high school students. A sample of 505 students was randomly (251 female) selected from high schools of Ghom Province. Parents of students were asked to complete the Family Assessment Device, Marital confilict, and Parenting styles. The results revealed that family functioning is significantly related to academic achievement (p=0.03). No significant difference was found between marital conflict and academic achievement. Families with high educational and economic level had significantly children with better involued in academic achievement. Among the family factors, related to academic achievement, the most important one were birth order, mother age, authoritarian mothership style, fathership age, economic level, number of children and authoritarian fathershipe style which explained significantly the variance of academic achivement respectively.
