Determination of Optimal Cultivation model Based on Environmental and Farmers, Objectives in Fars Province

Abstract:
The objective of this study was to develop a risk-based cultivation model in Jahrom District, Fars Province. Water reduction was considered as environmental objective. In addition, lowering the water consumption was also considered. To get the objectives, a multi-objective programming approach was applied. The mentioned objectives were followed by considering the farmers preferences to get the certain level of income. The risky models were Target MOTAD and Income Variance. Desired solutions were selected using cluster analysis, since several solutions were obtained by income variance. The selection was performed developing integrated criteria containing three goals: reduced amount of water usage, reduced risk, and increased gross margin. It was recognized that gross margin of optimal model is 20 percent higher than current one. But the optimal solution imposes 40 percent higher risk as compared to the current model. The results showed trade off among the goals, meaning that getting environmental objective will be achieved at other objectives expense. The risk of the model increased by increased income and decreased water use. In selected patterns wheat tended to increase by rising risk. These patterns contained more maize and vegetables rather than their current pattern. While in the case of barley, the high risk patterns emerged to set aside its priority. The broad beans was remained unchanged compared to its current pattern, to some extant. It was also revealed that, the more the risk of a pattern the more divergent would be the optimal solution compared to the current one.
