A case report of hydatid cyst of brain

Hydatid cyst is a parasitic disease which is caused by Echinococcus Granulosus. Man is an intermediate host and can be infected accidentally. Liver and lungs are usual sites of predilection whereas other organs are rarely involved.Case Report: The patient of the present case report was a 61year-old man who referred with head ache, right hemiparesis, right facial paresis, loss of consciousness and speech disturbance. Brain CT scan without contrast showed a well defined hypodense (cystic) homogenous lesion in the left frontal and parietal regions. The patient was operated and the hydatid cyst was removed without rupture of the cyst or any neurological sequela. Hydatid cyst can be seen rarely in brain and in CT-scan it presents itself as a hypodense (cystic) area. Surgery is needed for removal of the cyst.
