Abstract:
One of the most important factors in preventing road accidents is automobile safety. This is divided into two parts: active safety and inactive safety. Safety belt is on this equipment category. One fourth of fatalities resulting from injuries are due to injuries caused by road accidents. Statistically, the highest rate of injuries is on dangerous roads of developing countries. One of the most important reasons of traffic accident fatalities is that drivers do not fasten their safety belts. Today, in more than 25 countries of the world there are rules for safety belt fastening and enforcing laws concerning the use of safety belts has increased the number of people using them from 20-25 percent up to 60-90 percent. In Throma knowledge, one of the main reasons for involuntary injuries is road accidents and safety belt is one of the main instruments for physical injuries prevention. The present paper tries to evaluate the rate of prevention on fatal and wounding accidents emphasizing safety belt role on preventing Throma involuntary injuries. The study has been carried out on the basis of 343,082 accidents occurred in 2006 (1385) in Iran. The data has been gathered from CAM 114, the official database for road accidents. The results indicate that the ratio of safety belt fastening is different among drivers and passengers. It is 81 to 91 percent among drivers and 34 to 44 percent among passengers. 95 percents of people who had used safety belts and helmets were not injured, while 37 percent of those who had used were injured.
