The salt evaluation of mines and factories in Garmsar from the Iron and Copper contaminations point of view

In this project, 31 sample of salt were taken from all active salt mines and salt table factories in Garmsar region. The amount of Fe and Cu in samples were determined and investigated according to appropriate national standard of Iran and Codex by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) method. In accordance with the standards the allowed maximum limit of Cu is 2ppm and of Fe is 10pmm. The results showed that the amount of Cu in all of the studied samples was 0.1ppm to 0.5ppm and was bellow the allowed maximum limit but the amount of Fe was 2.1ppm to 30.7ppm and in some of the samples of mine was over the allowed maximum limit. So in using of these salts as raw materials for producing table salt and USP grade salts, enough precaution have to be taken to reach the allowed limit of national standard for Fe in final products of factories.
