Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) among aggressive patients attending to Baqiyatallah Psychiatric Clinic in 2005

Aggression is a common symptom among patients with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) but reverse prevalence has not previously assessed. This study was done to determine the prevalence of PTSD among patients with aggression. Materials and 100 patients with aggression randomly selected among subjects attending to Psychiatry Clinic of Baqiyatallah Hospital were evaluated by two questionnaires for aggression and PTSD severity (By Impact of Event Scale Questionnaire). DSM-V criteria were also used to determine existence of PTSD. Mean age of patients was 36.7±9.8 years. 77% were male and 23% were female. 46% of aggressive subjects had PTSD. Disease was sub-clinical in 6.5%, mild in 15.2%, moderate in 43.5% and severe in 34.8%. Diccussion: According to near to half prevalence of PTSD among aggressive patients, it is recommended to attend to this etiologic factor in cases with aggression.
