Presenting a decision making model for the Selection of Language Teaching Method using AHP and TOPSIS under Fuzzy Environment

The selection of language teaching method is a very important issue and has a significant impact on the efficiency of teaching English language. In other words، selecting the optimal method of teaching among different teaching methods is a multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) problem. The purpose of this research was to present a new approach to evaluation methods of language teaching and to help professors in teaching system for selecting optimal method of language teaching using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and the technique for order performance by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS). The AHP is used to analyze the structure of the method selection of language teaching and to determine weights of the criteria، and fuzzy TOPSIS method is used to obtain final ranking of alternative. The proposed model is applied to a real problem of method selection of language teaching in one of institutions of Semnan city. The research used a context method. The experts of this research were 6 professors in language teaching discipline. The instrument to collect data was two type AHP pair wise comparison questionnaire and TOPSIS self-designed questionnaire. The results of this research indicate that the audio-lingual method is selected as the optimal method of language teaching according to fuzzy TOPSIS analyses in the researched institution.
