A study on the effect of the amount of the Phosphate on Production of Lovastatin Aspergillus terreus

Abstract:
Background And Objective
Lovastatin is a medicine from statins family. It plays substantial role in lowering the blood cholesterol. It is produced by fungi called Aspergillus Terreus through a fermentation process. The aim of this research is the study of effects of phosphate concentration on the production of Lovastatin in a discontinuous medium.
Materials And Methods
During the study the rates of Lovastatin product were measured, Lovastatin concentrations vary as well as bio-messes concentrations in laboratory while the concentration of phosphate (0.2 to 3 g/l) and keeping the rates of other parameters of medium was unchanged.
Results
The maximum rate of produced bio-mess was amounts to 1.32 g/l, which produced by 0.3 g/l phosphate concentrate. In addition, 11.25 mg Lovastatin was produced with the same phosphate concentration. Lovastatin was extracted in optimized conditions with ethyl acetate as solvent.
Conclusion
The rate of 0.3 g/l is counted as the most desirable concentration of phosphate to be used for cultivation of Lovastatin. As Lovastatin becomes more concentrated in medium, phosphates plays a preventive role in the medium.
