The effect of Internet addiction on the amount of on the amount of time spent on reading by post-graduate students

Purpose
Internet addiction is characterized by excessive or poorly controlled preoccupation or behavior regarding internet access that leads to psychological، social، academic or occupational impairment. This study focuses on the effect of internet addiction on the amount of time spent on reading by LIS post-graduate students of Tehran universities. Design/
Methodology
Our population sample consisted of 152 students and Young Internet Addiction Test (IAD) was used along with some extra questions about the time spent on reading. Descriptive statistics، Regression، Anova and Tukey tests were used to analyze data.
Findings
The results revealed a significant correlation between academic reading and Internet addiction، but no proof of a relationship between non- academic reading and Internet addiction was seen. Results/Suggestions: It is suggested that those suffering from Internet addiction devote more of their online time to university related activities.
