Revisiting the source-directed approach in developing VRIO Model
Author(s):
Abstract:
Based on criticizability of the theories, the theorists of management science have always set up the possibility of development and completion of the infrastructural discussions in order to prove that the process of theorizing in management contexts is scientific. The source-directed approach in the theories on competitive advantage is not an exception to the rule and have always been criticized by its opponents(the advertisers of market-oriented approach). They may have criticized the source-directed approach mainly for not interacting with the environment in models and administrative strategies. This article discusses the necessity of interacting with environment in attaining to competitive advantage and sought to develop Barny's well-known model of VRIO. That is to say within the frameworks of value(V), rareness(R), imitate ability(I), and Organizational support and use(O) of the current model, to which another element called "updating" would be added.
