Village in the Post-Revolution Cinema (A Study of Rural Films in the First Decade after Revolution 1358-1367)

The basic issue of this paper is the review of how and why village is reflectedin the Iranian cinema works in the first decade after revolution. The theoreticalframework of this article is based on two totally independent and critical approaches.Thus, from one hand, cinema is studied as a phenomenon, which hasnormal functions for the society- that representation is one of them- and on theother hand, it is as a tool for the formation of people's viewpoints.Our methodology is a combinational method. To Percept the structure andfunctions of cinema works, we used qualitative content analysis method. Accessingto this purpose, the related cinema works have been classified in fiveformats, based on their functions: persuasion and propaganda, the function of performing new attitudes, desertional function, sociability function, and the function of presenting the reality. Also, another contented classification has performed to prepare the documents of critical direction. We used documentary method to clarify the chief variations in the rural society and historical vicissitude in mentioned years. In this era, 73 rural films have been made. Using formative approaches and critical theories, functionalist analysis this era's films by both positivistic approach and critical content analysis of works confirm the results obtained from description and analysis. In a broad and undeniable scale, the cinema of this era is a cinema based on useful functions and coordinated to that era's policy of government. The function of showing the reality is just raised in that era which the society has acceded to a social and political consistency.
