The Effect of Educational Multimedia on Social Skills Development

Abstract:
Introduction
This research aim was to study the effect of educational multimedia on social skills development in autistic students in the first grade of elementary school in Tehran city 2012-2013.Methode: The research methodology was quasi-experimental. Research statistics subjects include all of the autistic students in the first grade of elementary school in Tehran and have divided into two groups named control group and experimental group. Questionnaires pertaining to realized social skills, which were designed in 5 scales, were used as a tool for gathering data. During eight sessions experimental group were trained using realized multimedia software and control group was kept away from independent variable. In order to analyze data, statistics methods were used both in descriptive and inferential levels.
Results
In general, the results of this study indicate that the students that have received material through multimedia method have learned much more. The results also show that multimedia teaching has a great impact on improving social skills such as responsibility, sense of duty, respect other, respecting the law and so on. Therefore, in line with results from other studies, findings of this study demonstrate the prominent role of multimedia Instruction on social skills development in autistic students. Given that social development is one of domains in which autistic students have problem, so it is suggested that educational multimedia can be used to improve social skills of students.
