Relationship between nurses accountability and professional nursing ethics in Babol Shahid Beheshti Hospital

Accountability is a very important issue for health policymakers. On the other hand, respecting the professional ethics looks attentively at the health and welfare of patients. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between nurses’ accountability and professional nursing ethics in Shahid Beheshti Hospital. This is a correlation study that was performed at Babol Shahid Beheshti Hospital in 2013-2014. The statistical population includes graduated nurses selected by census method (285 samples). The study tool was a standardized nursing care questionnaire. Its validity was measured by validation assessment method and the reliability was measured by Cronbach's alpha method (α=0.86). Data were analyzed using the SPSS17 software, spearman correlation test. The results showed that there was a significant statistical relationship between nurses accountability rate as clinical specialists and professional ethics (r=0.134, p=0.037) and also between nurses accountability rate as educators and professional ethics (r = 0.231, p=0.000). But there was no significant relationship between other components (eg researcher and manager) and professional ethics. There is a significant positive relationship between nurses accountability and professional nursing ethics. According to the results, It is suggested that, in order to develop more than before, the managers, planners and educators should more attend to the following of professional performance standards and professional ethics of Medical staffs through training programs and codifying needed policies.
