The effect of eight weeks aerobic training and moderate and high doses green tea consumption on body composition and lipid profile in overweight and obese women

Introduction
Regular consumption of green tea may influence energy metabolism, body weight and body fat content. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of eight weeks aerobic training and moderate and high doses ofgreen tea consumption on body composition and lipid profile in overweight and obese women.
Materials and Methods
A total of 36 overweight and obese women selected and randomly divided into three groups, aerobic training with moderate doses of green tea (500 mg), aerobic training with high doses of green tea (750 mg), and placebo (starch). Both training groups performed aerobic training (3 sessions per week, each session 45 minutes) and consumed green tea for eight weeks. Placebo groups had no training during this period. Blood sample were taken in the fast state. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and LSD post-hoc tests (α≤0.05).
Results
Overall eight weeks aerobic training combined with moderate and high doses of green tea supplementation significantly decreased weight, BMI, body fat percent age and increased VO2max, however, there were no significant differences between the two groups in these variables. Also, there were no significant differences in WHR, LDL-C, HDL-C, Tchol and TG, between the three groups.
Conclusion
Overweight and obese women probably could modify body composition via aerobic training in combination with green tea supplementation. Also, it was suggested to use high doses of green tea with aerobic training on relation to lipid profile.
