Investigating Cataloging of Arabic Periodicals in National Library of Iran

Abstract:
Purpose
The status analysis of Arabic periodicals cataloging in National Library of Iran. Methodology/Approach: 808 titles of Arabic periodicals in the National Library of Iran were analysed using comparative survey along with a checklist. Statistical hypothesis testing and binomial distribution were used for data analysis.
Results
Bibliographic analysis showed that the complete title and author description are appropriate but the appellation, title in other languages and other title information are not in a proper condition. Also, the region, place and date of publication are appropriate but the publication name, production place, appendices and parts of periodicals are not. The title key is proper unlike the note parts. The classification reflects subject dispersal and is somehow appropriate. The most and the least frequencies are related to History and Religion respectively.
Conclusion
Using Anglo-American rules in Arabic periodical's organization in the National Library of Iran is in a poor condition.
