Determination of Prevalence of Staphylococcus Aureus Nasal Carriages and Antibiotic Resistance Pattern in Health Care Workers of 520 Kermanshah Hospital, winter 92

Staphylococcus aureus is a common cause of community and hospital acquired infections. One of the important sources of staphylococci for nosocomial infection is nasal carriage among hospital personnel. Emergence of drug resistant strains especially methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus is a serious problem inhospital environments. The purpose of this study was to to determine the nasal carriage rate of methicillin resistant andAntibiotic Resistance Pattern Staphylococcus aureus in health care workers (HCWs) 520 kermanshah hospital. The cross-sectional study was carried out on 118 HCWs. Samples were taken from anterior region nose of HCWs by Sterile cotton swabs and was cultured on Blood Agar. Of the 118 HCWs, 45 (38%) carried S. aureus of which 11 were methicillin resistant and The mean age of the individuals was 27.56 years, 47 (39.8%) were women and 71 (60.2%) were men. MRSA carriage was particularly high among nurses (45%). The highest rate of MRSA carriers (37%) were workers of clinical wards. Among MRSA strains were the highest resistance to gentamycin (100%) and sefixim (100%) and the lowest resistance to levofloxacin (91%) and mupirocin (100%) respectively. These HCWs act as a potential source of infection to their patients, causing nosocomial infection in the hospital. Our study suggests which can be used for control spread of MRSA especially in hospitals are regular screening of the HCWs.
