Evaluate the effect of teaching skills workshop on faculty self-assessment and student's evaluation of faculty's performance

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of teaching skills workshop on faculty self-assessment and student's evaluation of faculty's performance at Azad university of BABOL. This was a quasi-experimental study. The population was consisted of 5096 participants including 84 professors and 5012 students of Azad University of BABOL.Those participants including 84 professors weredivided into two groups: experimental group and control group, each group consisting of 42 persons. Having used Morgan's Table, 358 students were selected. One batch of 179 was selected as a control group and other as an experimental group. The researcher-made questionnaire for faculty-self-assessment and that of related to student evaluations of teaching were used in this study to collect data. The validity of this study was confirmed and examined by the relevant experts. The reliability value , on the other hand, was equal to α=0/90, based on Cronbach's alpha method. SPSS software, accordingly, was used to analyze the data. The findings showed that holding teaching skills workshop has positively changed the self-assessment of professors. The evaluation of teaching also viewed positively by students.
The results showed that theinstructional skills workshop for teaching has had positive effect on faculty self-assessment andstudent's evaluation of faculty's performance. Hence, workshops had better be held periodically throughout the academic year based on a formulated plan.
