Prediction of Mental Health Based on Hope and Religious Orientation among Female Householders

Background and Female householders, for reasons such as playing multiple roles, poverty, and loneliness, are one of the vulnerable social groups, especially from a mental health point of view. In this study, we aimed to predict mental health based on hope and religious orientation among female householders.
In this descriptive, correlational study, 150 female householders were selected via the convenience sampling method. The participants completed General Health Questionnaire, Allport’s Intrinsic/Extrinsic Religious Orientation Scale, and Snyder's adult hope scale. For the data analysis, Pearson correlation coefficient and simultaneous multiple regression were run.
There was a significant negative correlation between hope and mental health and intrinsic religious orientation and mental health (r=0.386, P Based on the findings, it can be concluded that hope and intrinsic religious orientation decrease anxiety, insomnia, severe depression, somatic symptoms, and social dysfunction. However, extrinsic religious orientation exacerbate these symptoms. Therefore, hope and intrinsic religious orientation are important factors in positive coping responses to life problems and could maintain mental health among female householders.
