Relationship between Psychological Hardiness with Sport Performance in Iran Basketball Primer League

Hardiness personality trait moderates the competitive stress and it is one of the most important characteristics of successful athletes. The aim of this research was to determine the relationship between psychological hardiness and sport performance in basketball‬players‬in‬the‬Iran’s‬Premier‬League.‬ The study is correlation and survey one. The study population comprised 294 basketball players (108 female and 116 male) who have participated in the tournament. Research tools included the short hardiness scale (SHS: Bartone, 1995) and standard situation efficacy parameters of basketball international Federation. Pearson's correlation and stepwise regression analysis using SPSS software were utilized to analysis the data. Results showed a significant positive correlation between psychological hardiness and sports performance. Among all components of hardiness, Challenge component can predict significant sport performance and explain 3.9% of the variance in sport performance. Results showed that the hardy athletes have better performance. It seems evaluation and improve hardiness, can play an applied role in intervention programs with the aim of increasing performance.
