Evaluation of Economic Benefits of Agricultural Products Ranking Based on Safety and Quality

Abstract:


One of the most important indicators for country development is food security based on which access to sufficient and safe food is a main requirement for the rise of competent human resources. In this regard, adopting the proper policies, strategies, and implementation of operational plans for ranking, and consequently, the evaluation of agricultural products based on the safety and quality give rise to more profits and better agricultural activities to ensure the food safety from the origin. Based on experience experience in other countries, four major factors for food ranking are safety, quality, nutritional value and environmental concerns; therefore, in this review, emphasis is made on the importance of agricultural products ranking based on safety and quality. As a conclusion, the effectiveness of integrated farm management with the implementation of the bio-farming is presented in the framework of cost-benefit analysis which has been discussed and purposed in a biotech committee of Production Group of Biotechnology Headquarter. As such, the economic evaluation indicated that the use of biofertilizers led to an annual average profit surplus of 19500 billion rials in wheat production chain in Iran. Also, while eliminating chemical fertilizer subsidies, the possible economic encouragement could be estimated between 200-4600 thousand rials per hectare of wheat. In general, the average total benefit resulting from integrated nutrition management is calculated to be 24850 billion rials annually in Iran. This analysis showed that ranking of safe agricultural products not only triggers the improvement of production efficacy, increasing the incentive of safer producing and higher efficiency in using resources at the micro-level, but also leads to food security as well as reductions of the environmental damage, financial input by the government, and, waste of national resources as well as increasing the new investment at the macro-level.
