Abstract:
This study was conducted to evaluate the use of antibacterial nanocomposite film for food packaging. Following nanoclay modification, two polymeric films were extruded using a double screw-extruder, each of which was made with 1% and 2% anti-oxidant and antibacterial films. For each sample, anti-biogram test (determination of antibacterial properties of the material), disc diffusion, MIC and MBC tests were conducted. Tests were repeated three times. The prepared films at both levelshad the highest effect on Listeria and E.coli respectively. With regard to Salmonella, the level of 1% could not have a significant effect on the inhibitory zone diameter, but level of 2% showed significant antibacterial activity. Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) and MBC were observed for Listeria, E. coli, and salmonella, respectively. Overall, it can be stated that films prepared from nanoclay, antioxidants and antibacterial materials, especially at the 2% level, had the greatest effect on Listeria, and E. coli.
