iAnalysis of verbal reports of Football matches based on Halliday and Matthiessen Theory (Case study: Adel Ferdowsipour and Mohammad Reza Ahmadi)
In this research work, based on functional Grammar Theory by Halliday and Matthiessen (2004), reports by two Iranian Football Matches reporters, Adel Ferdowsipor and Mohammad Reza Ahmadi have been analyzed and by doing this, the style of their reporting became clear. The study work is descriptive- analytical and the statistical population of the study, are their reportage during a period of 5 months and 5 reports from each of them selected in a random manner, recorded and re-written. Then, the material, conjunctional, verbal, behavioral, mental and existential process of their reports were analyzed. At the end by using EXCEL and SPSS soft wears, the collected data analysis showed that out of 480 process observed within the selected reports of Ahmadi, 48.23 percent were material process, 34.2 percent conjunctional process, 9.3 percent mental process and 1.06 percent existential process that the most frequent process were material and the lowest frequency is related to existential process. Out of 590 process, observed from selected reports by Ferdowsipor, 39.5 percent, were material process, 33.2 percent, conjunctional, 16.5 percent mental and 2.1 percent existential process. In his case, the most frequent process was material and the lowest one was existential. Based on the results of the analysis, the reporting style of Ahmadi was determined as visual while Ferdowsipor in his reporting tries to transfer his experiences in a mental manner, to his listeners.
