The impact of the imposed war on the Regional Power of I.R.Iran:1980-2001

Abstract:

The Glorious Victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979 Caused Major Changes in Iran's Regional Policy. In the Years Following the Revolution, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Because of its Unique Geographical Location, the High Legitimacy of the Political System, the Adoption of a Universal Islamic Identity, and the Potential for Regional Leadership in a More Favorable Position than the Pahlavi Regime. But the Outbreak of the Imposed War and its Inevitable Consequences Influenced Iran's Regional Policy. Thus, Although the Imposed War Had Positive Effects, Such as an Increase in Deterrence and Military Self-Sufficiency, its Negative Consequences Led to a Decline in Iranian Activity until the Regional Developments Following the September 11 Events. The Purpose of this Study is to Answer the Question: What Was the Effect of the Iran-Iraq War on Neutralizing Iran's Regional Power? Preliminary Findings Indicate that the Consequences of the War on Iran at the International Level have been the increasing Structural Pressure of the International System and at the Domestic Level the Erosion of the (economic and military) power Resources, which has Undermined Iran's Regional Power. This can be Reflected in the Lack of Regional Leadership Due to the Promotion of other Actors and the Removal of Iran from Regional Security Arrangements, the lack of Regional Protection Role Due to the First Gulf War and the Emergence of the Taliban, and the lack of Regional Support Role Due to Expansion. US Presence in the Region Observed..
